Come and meet us
You need to remember that dogs should not start formal training until they are 12 months old. This gives the opportunity for their bones to grow and for them to acquire the strength and stamina to enjoy agility. However it is necessary for your dog to have basic obedience training in order to pass the informal test and there are also a few exercise you can do at home beforehand, Josie will tell you all about them. |
Agility is quite an energetic sport although people go on doing it for many years! If you have any health problems or a disability, let us know so that we can take it into account when organising training. Most people can do agility so give it a try. |
Your dog needs to be fit and not overweight but dogs have trained for agility when deaf, with only 3 legs or sight problems, so if you are keen, get in touch. Bitches in season or if your dog is ill or just off colour they should not be brought to training. |
Before a new dog joins any of the groups they will have a short informal test which will ensure that they are under control and ready to start training in the club. Eileen Belshaw a longstanding member of the club is responsible for the test. Josie will give you details of what it is about but don't be put off as we say, it is just to make certain that you and your dog are under control! |

Join the Buddies
To start training in agility you will be joining the Buddies for a 12 weeks basic course, divided into two 6 weeks sessions, at a fee of £20 per 6 weeks. This gives you the opportunity to try out all the equipment. You will also become a Buddie member of the club and your membership fee is included. This will mean you are covered by our Public Liability Insurance. |
By the end of the 6 weeks you will probably be on medium height for jumps and middle height for the A frame. You will be using the training weaves and will have worked with the tunnel, dog walk and long jump. If your dog is confident you will have worked on the see saw. Your dog will be working on your left and right sides and will be working on short routines of equipment. |
At the end of 12 weeks you will either move on to the Improvers or you may need further time with the Buddies. At the point you join the Improvers you will be asked to become a full member of the club. |

Although we try to have a structure to training in the club we are still a very friendly, informal group. New members are always welcome, so why don't you get in touch.
As we said - If you are interested in joining us give Josie a ring on 01229 839985 (after 6pm and at weekends) or email her. Looking forward to seeing you. |
